Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving’s Growth Has Not Slowed

Large-scale renovation projects occurred simultaneous

IRVING, Texas– Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Irving recently announced phase one of its two-phase $150+ million renovation project is completed.

"Our team has created a new gateway to the medical campus while transforming the healthcare experience. We're designing and growing a facility that supports and enhances the specialty services we offer," said Cindy Schamp, president, Baylor Scott & White - Irving. "We're proud to have served the community for more than 50 years and remain dedicated to providing quality healthcare for future decades."

From the outside of Baylor Scott & White – Irving, the community sees a new façade and an ultramodern architectural glass atrium, deemed "the Point." A light-filled, open atrium accented with a specially designed illuminated halo light structure welcomes patients and visitors. "The patient is the point of everything we do at BSW – Irving and this new exterior reflects that focus," said Schamp.

Renovations occurred in these areas.

  • Cardiovascular suite featuring cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology
  • Digestive disease suite centering on complex gastrointestinal care needs
  • Expanded inpatient dialysis suite
  • New hybrid surgical suite with advanced technology for minimally invasive to complex procedures to general surgery
  • Remodeled and enhanced day surgery unit
  • New multi-faith chapel in the front of the hospital
  • Renovated women's services with upgraded antepartum and postpartum patient rooms

"Our hospital offers a wonderfully balanced blend of innovative technology and a healing environment," says Nikoma Wolf, vice president of operations, Baylor Scott & White - Irving. "The renovations weren't designed in a vacuum. We sought input and feedback from our patients, our staff, and the community alike." Mock-up patient rooms with real equipment and built to scale gave staff opportunity to try out and evaluate new work areas designs.

Hospital officials noted that patient satisfaction scores also did not significantly dip during the two years of construction despite the shifting of entrances and some department locations. The original hospital building opened in 1964.

Now Baylor Scott & White - Irving will turn its attention to phase two—a multi-story patient tower. Tucked behind the front areas of the campus, it will seamlessly integrate with current buildings without obstructing access to the hospital during construction. Anticipated completion of Phase II is 2021.
