Coronary artery bypass grafting (also known as CABG surgery) is a procedure where a healthy artery or vein is moved from one part of the body and connected to the heart where it can bypass a blockage, creating a detour for oxygen-rich blood to flow to the heart muscle.
This treatment, which is the most commonly performed cardiovascular surgery procedure in the United States, relieves the symptoms of severe coronary artery disease and gives those patients a higher and healthier quality of life. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has even awarded us the highest rating for quality and patient outcomes: three stars for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and aortic valve replacement plus CABG—making us one of the top-performing programs in the country.
